The original key is E♭ major. If it sits too high or too low for your voice, try the shifted versions and pick the one you can sing comfortably.

Henry Francis Lyte, vicar of Lower Brixham in Devon, wrote this evening prayer in late summer 1847 while his health was failing. He died at Nice that November, and the text was first printed on a leaflet that September. Its lasting tune, EVENTIDE, came from William Henry Monk, music editor of Hymns Ancient and Modern, for the book's first edition in 1861. Since 1927 it has been sung before the FA Cup Final. Eb major is the key most hymnals use.
The melody is in the public domain (first published 1861). MR Maker made this accompaniment from a public-domain score. It contains no lyrics, translations or third-party recordings.
